
Basciano - Teramo Treasure in Abruzzo Italy
Basciano is a small town located near Teramo in the Abruzzo Region of Italy. A sawmill by the name of Silea-s.r.l. is located there as is a well respected real estate agency Gran Sasso House.
Approximately 15 km from Basciano is the town of Valle San Giovanni, home of Casale. Somewhat closer by is the communal town of Montorio al Vomano.
Located in the town of Basciano are:
- San Giorgio Tower – a clocktower with an entrance to a medieval citadel
- Church of San Flaviano, – 6th century church containing several XIV century paintings
- Church of Santa Maria – containing a ceiling in painted ceramics
Each year in August, Basciano, in the Abruzzo Region’s Teramo Province, celebrates the Sagra del Prosciutto (Feast of Prosciuto) takes place. 2009 was the 42nd such celebration. Located in the city center Piazza Victor Emanuel are a large number of stands where visitors can sample delicious foods and beverages including prosciuto crudo (raw cured ham), local cheeses, and wines from the finest production facilities of the region. Also highlight is a local competition of the Miss Italia contest.
